چکیده

conclusions modern cts with the innovative technology of a built-in tin filter allow for significant reduction of radiation exposure in patients with suspected urolithiasis by optimizing the x - ray spectrum with image quality as high as in standard ct devices results ct examinations of a total of 143 patients were assessed. dlp of force was 56% and 55% lower in comparison to as+ and flash, (74.3, 166.1 and 164.6 mgycm respectively; p < 0.001). ctdivol of force showed 60% and 58% significantly lower values as compared to as + and flash, respectively (1.4 vs. 3.5vs. 3.3 mgy; p < 0.001). image quality in force proved to be slightly higher as compared to flash and as + (3.67, 3.50 and 3.59 respectively; p > 0.05). interrater agreement regarding image quality was substantial for all ct - devices (κ = 0.75, n = 143). methods low - dose examinations from two standard ct (siemens as +, siemens flash) devices with a tin - filter ct (siemens force) were compared regarding dose-length product (dlp) and computed tomography dose index volume (ctdivol). image quality of each ct scan was assessed using a five point likert scale (0 = major blurring, 4 = excellent depiction). kruskal - wallis analysis was performed to test for significant subgroup differences in dlp, ctdivol and image quality. an interrater agreement concerning image quality was evaluated. objectives to compare radiation dose and image quality of three different ct devices using low dose abdominal protocols in patients with suspected urolithiasis. differences in radiation dose due to usage of additional hardware (tin filter) and software (newer generation iterative reconstruction) were evaluated.

Radiation dose reduction at multidetector CT with adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction for evaluation of urolithiasis: how low can we go?

PURPOSE To evaluate the performance of computed tomographic (CT) examinations at 80 and 100 kV with tube current-time products of 75-150 mA and the effect of adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction (ASIR) on CT image quality in patients with urinary stone disease. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this HIPAA-compliant institutional review board-approved study, verbal consent for prospective low-...

Low-dose computed tomography in the evaluation of urolithiasis.

Urolithiasis is common, with the lifetime risk in the United States exceeding 12% in men and 6% in women, and the prevalence appears to have increased in recent years. In addition, many patients have recurrent stones, with an estimated rate of 30% to 40% within 5 years. Noncontrast CT is the imaging study of choice in patients with acute flank pain, replacing traditionally used radiography, ult...

Antibiotic prescribing for acute bronchitis: how low can we go?

By the time I graduated from medical school in 1975, I had learned that most respiratory tract infections in otherwise healthy children and adults were caused by viruses, such as parainfiuenza, influenza, adenovirus, and respiratory syncytial virus. This learning was reinforced during my family practice residency training in Charleston, Se. I was taught that the challenge of primary care practi...

Heparin dose during percutaneous coronary intervention: how low dare we go?

Despite dramatic advances in percutaneous coronary intervention, including coronary stents and potent antiplatelet agents, unfractionated heparin remains the standard procedural anticoagulant. Tradition and habit may have considerable influence over dose selection. A review of the role and dosage of heparin during PCI appears to be overdue
